Which Cities Have the Safest Drivers?

Whether you just turned 16 and have that key in hand or you’ve been driving for 60 years, accidents on the road can happen. Of course, the goal is to stay safe while driving, but sometimes we can’t help what the people around us are doing. So which cities have the safest overall drivers?

Fort Collins, you may be excited to learn, is ranked as the best in terms of safest drivers in Colorado! According to the Allstate Best Driver’s Report, average drivers in our lovely town of FoCo go about 12 years between crashes. In fact, Fort Collins is doing so well that we’re ranked 11th in the nation for safest drivers (although in past years we’ve been fourth!).

However, the safe driver bubble doesn’t extend too far, as the worst Coloradan city to drive in is Aurora. Drivers in Aurora are 20 percent more likely to be in a car crash than the national average. Outside of Colorado, the worst cities include Boston, Baltimore, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

For 2017, Allstate reported the following as the top 10 cities for best drivers:

  1. Kansas City, Kan.
  2. Brownsville, Texas
  3. Madison, Wis.
  4. Hunsville, Ala.
  5. Cape Coral, Fla.
  6. Boise, Idaho
  7. Laredo, Texas
  8. Port St. Lucie, Fla.
  9. McAllen, Texas
  10. Olathe, Kan.

We’d love Fort Collins to be number one next year! So make sure you’re being safe when driving and put away all distractions. Eating, doing makeup, or texting are all things that will keep your eyes off the road. Pay attention and minimize your distractions. Make sure your car is in good working condition, and bring it to Houska Automotive for oil changes and routine maintenance checkups. Then we’ll be well on our way to that number one spot in the nation!
