Did you know that 40% of all food the United States produces ends up in a landfill? Perfectly edible food! That’s why Houska Automotive is putting their tools aside and clearing out the premises to host their annual Houska Garage Band event to benefit Vindeket Foods. Vindeket Foods is a non-profit food rescue that partners with grocery stores, restaurants, and farms to reduce waste. The event will be held on Saturday, September 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Houska Automotive Heavy Duty, 1005 Riverside Avenue in Fort Collins.
Live music
Live music includes performances from Say Uncle, a blues and reggae-infused rock band, and Last Call Romance, a high-energy band playing a mix of swing and rock. El Don and Fork Yeah trucks will be on site for people to satisfy their food cravings throughout the night.
Accepting donations (food and money)
The community is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the benefit that will include live music from local bands, delicious meals from food trucks and the opportunity to learn more about Vindeket Foods’ mission. The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to make either a monetary or food donation to Vindeket Foods. Non-perishable foods are requested which will be added to the Vindeket Market: which is a no-cost market open to anyone and supported by monetary donations from the community. Food is also donated to over 20 local non-profits on a monthly basis. Monetary donations will immediately be designated to the Root Bound Campaign. Their current location is 2,400 square feet and the plan is to find a location that is 3x the size that has a commercial kitchen, education center and increases cold and freezer storage.
