Taking a Road Trip? Here are a Few Tips for Staying Safe on the Road

Are you planning a cross-country road trip this summer? Before you depart on your grand adventure, it’s important to prepare yourself and your car for a long drive. Nothing spoils a road trip faster than car troubles! The team at Houska Automotive is here to ensure that you have an enjoyable and safe time on the road, no matter how far away you are from home.

As you prepare to set off on your summer road trip, be sure to take a look at the checklist below!

Be sure that your vehicle is in tip-top shape!

Check your vehicle’s oil, coolant, tire pressure, brakes, lights and signals. Make sure that your spare tire is ready to be used in case you get a flat. It’s always a good idea to schedule a maintenance appointment before your trip – the folks here at Houska Automotive will ensure the functionality and safety of your vehicle before you depart.

Prepare for your road trip by stocking your vehicle

You never know what could happen while you’re on the road, and it’s important to be prepared for any situation. Be sure to pack a first aid kit, water bottles, snacks, blankets, and a toolkit in your vehicle’s trunk. It’s also a good idea to carry a map or atlas in case you find yourself without cell service. Jumper cables are another road trip necessity, in case you need a jump (or come across another traveler in need of assistance).

Stay awake and alert while driving

It can be easy to become drowsy and distracted, especially after a long day of driving. Stay safe by doing most of your driving during the day while the sun is up. Stay away from medications which can cause drowsiness, and never drink alcohol before or while you drive. Take breaks when you can, and switch drivers as often as needed.
