How to transition your vehicle from winter to warmer weather
With spring officially starting later this month, it’s time to prepare your vehicle for the seasonal shift to warmer weather. The past few months of snow, ice and freezing temperatures may have taken a toll on your vehicle, leaving it in desperate need of some maintenance. Here are some tips to help your vehicle gear up for the warmer months ahead.
Thoroughly clean your vehicle: Start with the inside by vacuuming and cleaning mats and upholstery to get rid of any dirt and debris. Once the interior is clean, wash off any salt or grime on the outside of your vehicle. Spend extra time on the undercarriage, where salt and grime can really stick and accumulate.
Check Belts and Hoses: Extreme cold temperatures can cause rubber belts and hoses to crack or become brittle. Examine them for any signs of damage. Even if the damage seems minor, it is best to replace them with new ones.
Replace wiper blades: Winter’s harsh elements can wear out your window wiper blades. You’ll need a fresh pair to handle spring rainstorms to ensure good visibility and keep you safe on the road.
Test the air conditioning system: Don’t wait until the hot weather is here. Test you’re A/C now to make sure it’s working properly so it’s ready when you need it.
Inspect air filters: With the increased amount of pollen and dust in the springtime air, you’ll want your filter in top condition and working well! Inspect both the engine air filter and cabin air filter. New filters will help your vehicle’s air circulation and a healthy, breathable environment in your vehicle.
Examine the battery: The winter cold can drain battery power. Have it tested to make sure it’s holding a charge. Look for any signs of corrosion or wear. Do your best to wipe away any corrosion. If the battery is more than three years old, you may want to consider replacing it.
