Summer is here! For many of us, warm weather comes with vacations and road trips galore – which means there is no better time than now to ensure that your vehicle is in tip-top shape.
Here at Houska Automotive, the safety of you and your family is our top priority. We recommend that you prioritize vehicle maintenance at the beginning of each new season. This is an easy way to ensure that you are following a regular maintenance schedule.
Now that summer is here, we encourage you to take time to prepare your vehicle for the warm weather. Follow these tips to ensure that your summer travels go off without a hitch!
Check your vehicle’s tires and tire pressure
Be sure to inspect all four of your vehicle’s tires, and check your spare as well! Low tire pressure (or damaged tires) can cause serious problems for your vehicle, especially if you plan to drive long distances. Be prepared!
Check your vehicle’s engine oil
Regular oil changes are important if you hope to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape for years to come. Stay current with your oil changes so that you don’t have to worry about being overdue in the middle of a road trip!
Ensure that your vehicle’s radiator has enough coolant
Coolant is what helps your engine not to overheat, which is especially important in the warmer months. Without enough coolant, your engine can be damaged. And no one wants to be stuck on the side of the road out in the sun!
Check that your vehicle’s air conditioner is working properly
If you’ve noticed that your vehicle’s AC isn’t blowing cold air, you may need to change your vehicle’s cabin air filter. If this filter becomes clogged, your vehicle’s HVAC system will be less efficient.
Replace your windshield wipers and refill on windshield cleaner
Windshield wipers can deteriorate over time, leaving streaks behind on your windshield. Be sure to replace your wipers and refill your windshield washer reservoir with cleaner, to ensure that you can effectively clean off your windshield when needed.
Get a carwash!
Roads are often treated with salt or magnesium chloride in the winter to help ice melt more quickly. While this salt makes winter driving much safer, it can be tough on the exterior of your vehicle. Wash your vehicle to get rid of the grime leftover from wintertime.
