With so much snow still on the ground, you might be itching to head toward warmer weather this coming spring break. Before you hit the road, make sure your vehicle is prepared to get you there. Vehicles take a beating over the winter battling snow and ice. Start with these tips. If you’re unsure about anything, bring your vehicle in to be checked. There’s nothing worse than having to find a place to get your vehicle serviced when you’re on vacation!
Take a Look at the Tires: To get efficient gas mileage on the road, check your vehicle’s tire pressure and tread. Look for signs of wear and any damage. If you need to add air to the tires, make sure not to over inflate them. While you’re at it, make sure the spare tire is in good condition, too.
Fill the Fluids: Fill windshield wiper fluid, coolant, oil and transmission fluids to your vehicle’s recommended levels.
Replace Wiper Blades: Chances are you’re going to hit some wet weather over the course of your road trip. Make sure your windshield is clear with new wiper blades for safe driving.
Wash Your Vehicle: Get rid of all the dirt and salt that has built up around your vehicle’s exterior. We suggest going to a car wash to make sure the under body and roof are properly cleaned. Leaving any grime on your vehicle can cause corrosion.
Put Papers in Place: Don’t leave home without proof of insurance, vehicle registration, owner’s manual, warranty information and of course, your driver’s license. If something does happen, you’ll need these papers handy.
